A striking, evergreen, rhizomatous perennial with rosettes of modified leaf stems called 'phyllodes' which function as insect-catching tubular pitchers with hooded lids. These pitchers are pale green, veined with dark red, have a dark red veined lip and throat and a white lid with red veining. Flowers are bright red to orange with drooping petals, and emerge from the top of the stalks in spring
