A mat-forming, evergreen succulent, producing tight rosettes of fleshy, pointed leaves that are softly hairy at the leaf tips. The foliage is green at the centre of the rosette while outer leaves are red. Starry pink flowers are held in clusters on leafy stems to 15cm tall in summer. The rosettes die after flowering but are replaced by offsets on lateral runners

Cultivation
Grow in poor to moderately fertile, sharply drained soil in full sun. In pots use a 50:50 mix of peat-free, loam-based potting compost and grit. Protect from excessive winter wet. See hardy cacti and succulent cultivation
