A dwarf, very slow-growing, evergreen coniferous tree only reaching around 60cm (2ft) high and 1m (39in ) across after ten years. The tree has a densely, mounding to spreading habit, with white, newly emerging needles which slowly mature to a dark green. These are thin and soft and produced in groups of fives at the tips of the stems They are approximately 3cm (1¼in) long and slightly curved or twisted, giving the tree's canopy a ruffled texture.
