A low-growing, deciduous, South African, perennial bulbous plant, up to 10cm in height, which grows in winter and is dormant in summer, bearing two, fleshy, oval to oblong shaped, green leaves, that lie close to the soil surface. Their upper surface is smooth. A dense cluster of white flowers with upright petals and protruding white stamens, topped with yellow pollen, appear at ground level between the leaves, from November to December
