A low-growing, deciduous, South African, perennial, bulbous plant, up to 10cm in height, which grows in winter and is dormant in summer. It has two, fleshy, oval to lance-shaped, green leaves, up to 8cm in length and 4cm in width. Numerous short hair-like projections cover the upper surface. A dense cluster of white flowers with upright petals and prominent stamens of unequal length, carrying blue pollen, appear at ground level between the leaves, from November to December
