A low-growing, deciduous, South African, perennial bulbous plant, up to 3 to 6cm in height, which grows in winter and is dormant in summer, bearing two, fleshy, oval to oblong, green leaves, that lie close to the soil surface. Their upper surface is textured and covered in small, dark green, wart-like bumps. A dense cluster of small, star-shaped, greenish white flowers, with six petals and six upright white stamens, tipped with purple pollen appear at ground level between the leaves, from November to December
