A low-growing, deciduous, South African, perennial bulbous plant, 2-5cm in height, which is winter growing and dormant in summer, bearing two, broad, fleshy, roughly oval-shaped, green leaves, up to 8cm in length and to 6cm in width, that lie close to the ground, and have a bumpy surface texture. A dense cluster of fragrant, white flowers with prominent yellow stamens, appear at ground level, between the leaves, from November to December
