A low-growing, clump-forming herbaceous perennial to around 30cm in height, with green, softly silky dissected foliage. Fully double, triple in some cases, rich, dark purple flowers, almost black in the centre, appear from April to May, nodding as they first appear then lifting to face outwards as they open. Perfect for a gravel or alpine garden, pots and containers

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, very well-drained soil in full sun. It resents root disturbance and may be difficult to establish, so plant when small and leave undisturbed. Can also be grown in pots in an alpine house
