Variable, evergreen succulent species to about 15cm tall, with upright stems and small spirally arranged fleshy greyish-green leaves flushed with pink or red tones in cooler weather, turning maroon in winter. Tiny, star-shaped white flowers appear at the stem tips in midsummer
