RHS Photographic Competition FAQs
Q. What size should the photographs be and what format should they be in?
A. Photographs should be .jpg files, no larger than 10MB and at least 800 pixels along the longest side.
Q. Is editing or enhancing my photograph in tools such as Adobe Photoshop allowed?
A. Yes.
Q. Is the competition open to people outside the UK?
A. Yes. We welcome photographs from anywhere in the world.
Q. Is there a time limit on when my photograph must have been taken?
A. No.
Q. Are photographs taken in parks (rather than in domestic gardens) accepted?
A. Yes. But please be aware of the following from the Terms & Conditions: ‘The RHS requires that prior permission be sought before entering photographs of private or public gardens. However permission is not required for images taken at RHS Gardens: Wisley, Harlow Carr, Rosemoor and Hyde Hall.’
Q. I will be 18 before the competition closing date. Should I submit my photographs to the Young Photographer or the Adult category?
A. For the purpose of the competition, the age that counts is the age you are on the day you submit your photographs. So if you enter your photographs before your 18th birthday you should submit them to the Young Photographer category (which is also free of charge to enter!).
Q. Can I scan a print of a photograph that I have taken and submit that to the competition?
A. Yes.
Q. Can I upload my photographs and then upload some more later?
A. Yes. You will have to fill in the entry form each time and make separate payments for each group of photographs you upload. Adults may submit as many photographs as they like but if you are submitting photographs to the Young Photographer or Children’s Photographer categories (which are free to enter) you may submit a maximum of five photographs in total.
Q. Are RHS volunteers eligible to enter?
A. Yes. RHS or Medici Cards or Wex Photographic employees are not eligible to enter, but everyone else is.
