About the garden
This is a wild subtropical garden nestled in a small valley surrounding a couple of lakes in ancient woodland. It’s filled with a wide variety of lush plants from warmer parts of the world. Visitors can follow the winding path through drifts of bamboo varieties set among shrubs, including around 250 camellias, assorted tree ferns and banana trees.
Drifts of cyclamen, hydrangeas, Brugmansia and ginger plants bloom in the autumn and early winter, marking the seasonal changes. Winter sees an abundance of snowdrops, with early Narcissi and drifts of cyclamen, more camellias and the start of the hellebores. Spring heralds the unfurling of tree ferns and Gunnera, accompanied by azaleas and early rhododendrons. Summer sees the garden filled with hebes, fuchsias, lilies, and early agapanthus.
