About the garden
Nestled in the picturesque countryside, Great Comp Garden was created by Roderick and Joyce Cameron, who moved to the property in 1957. Today, the garden features a fine collection of salvias, cultivated by the RHS award-winning curator William Dyson, who is recognised as a leading authority on salvias in the UK.
In spring, the garden comes alive with a stunning display of magnolias, azaleas and rhododendrons, beautifully underplanted with large drifts of hellebores and various bulbs. As summer arrives, the garden radiates warmth and extravagance, showcasing rich, fiery colours from dahlias, Kniphofias, Crocosmias and fuchsias, complemented by a diverse array of ornamental grasses.
Visitors can explore the Italian Garden, admire the borders surrounding the formal lawn and take a break at the Old Dairy Tearooms for lunch or a classic cream tea. Dyson’s Nurseries offer an extensive selection of salvias, as well as hardy and half-hardy plants. The garden also hosts popular events, including specialist plant fairs, outdoor theatre performances, art exhibits and music concerts.
