About the garden
Situated near the North Cotswolds market town of Moreton-in-Marsh, Batsford Arboretum is home to a vast collection of trees and shrubs. Explore 60 acres of wild gardens, paths and streams and marvel at beautiful views across the Evenlode Valley.
Established in the 1880s, the arboretum features several oriental curiosities brought from Japan by Lord Redesdale, including a large bronze Buddha and an oriental rest house. Much of the arboretum’s development is credited to the late Lord Dulverton, who introduced numerous new plantings between 1956 and 1992. These include nearly 100 different magnolia cultivars, a comprehensive collection of Japanese cherries, conifers and genera such as Acer, Betula and Sorbus.
