Brahman Hills Gardens boast a formal layout with repeating geometric motifs in circles and rectangles of hard landscaping softened and beautifully contrasted by abundant flowers and plants. Interspersed are oases of water – fountains, ponds, formal pools and the lake beside the Lake House.
The garden was designed by Tim Steyn as a series of 26 garden rooms of varying sizes and compositions. The thread linking them is a palette of moody hues and a sweeping combination of grasses and perennials that now line winding walkways and open lawns, envelope circular water features and fringe wide, low garden stairs.
Shady pergolas dotted along the structured pathways lead to the central focal points. The garden is a sensory delight – the lush green foliage offsets the bursts of blue, purple and delicate pink. The landscaping gives dimension and interest thanks to the tiered terraces and multi-level flower beds. These levels also provide unique outlooks for those taking in the sights or, from other perspective, enchanting backdrops for photoshoots.
Aside from the ornamental planting scheme, the design of the garden also includes an extensive kitchen garden, which supplements the Brahman Hills kitchen. At any given time, the 5.65 acre garden could be home to strolling hotel guests, restaurant patrons, wedding parties or day-tripping garden enthusiasts.
All areas have been carefully designed for maximum visual interest, entertainment, interlude for photography and opportunities to linger and stroll.
