About the garden

The Cholmondeley family has lived on these lands since Norman times, with the castle built in the early 19th century by the first Marquess. Nestled within historic parkland, the 70 acres of beautiful gardens offer magnificent displays throughout the seasons and are filled with colour and botanical delights.

A garden highlight is Lavinia Walk, a magnificent 328ft double herbaceous border, dedicated to Lady Lavinia Cholmondeley. The lakeside nature trail is home to many different varieties of waterfowl and freshwater fish, and its picnic and children’s play area offers magnificent views of Cholmondeley Castle across the Mere.

Discover the romantic temple and Folly Water Garden,s enclosed by specimen trees and many varieties of shrubs, the Rose Garden with more than 250 roses, a glade, an arboretum and the ornamental woodland upon Tower Hill. The historic St. Nicholas family chapel, located in the park, is also well worth a visit.
