Les Jardins du Montperthuis

About the garden

After many years working abroad as a garden designer, Philippe Dubreuil finally decided to put down roots in the Perche region of Normandy, France, where he created Les Jardins du Montperthuis. At the time, Manoir de la Pillardière was a run-down agricultural estate in a state of decay. The surrounding land was a pasture with a few cows, remnants of old fruit trees and a beautiful pollarded hornbeam. Ten years later, the garden has flourished around the buildings, featuring a collection of more than 400 old roses, magnolias, viburnums, lime trees, hawthorns, hostas, peonies, oaks, hydrangeas and thousands of bulbs.

A heated greenhouse houses a collection of citrus trees and agapanthus, while a one-acre vegetable garden supplies the house with fresh produce. This Jardin Remarquable has more than 5,000 colourful perennials flowering throughout the year, along with many ponds, bassins and a rill.
