About the garden
The garden at Nunnington Hall is the perfect place to enjoy some peace. Managed fully organically since 2002, the garden revives traditional horticultural methods while embracing modern techniques and technology. These include a four-bay composting system, a wormery, fruit cages and an organic vegetable patch.
Every year, sheep fleece is packed around the base of young fruit trees. This not only suppresses weed growth and helps the soil retain moisture but also slowly releases nutrients as the fleece decays into organic mulch. Features include a rose garden, an iris garden and a terraced walk. Wildflower meadows, intersected by grassed pathways, create a delicate balance between formality and environmental stewardship, while yew obelisks stand on the south lawn.
