About the garden

New for 2024: Located just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Andalusia Historic House, Gardens & Arboretum is situated on the banks of a beautiful stretch of the Delaware River. For more than two centuries and six generations, it has been the ancestral home of the Biddles, a prominent family in American politics, banking, law, military service, and the arts since the colonial era.
The house, built in 1797, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and is considered one of the finest examples of Greek Rival architecture in the United States. It is surrounded by gardens designed by Lady Arabella Lennox-Boyd and an arboretum with a curated collection of more than 1,000 trees representing over 250 different species.
Highlights on the River Walk include a paperbark maple, a China fir, and an ancient shagbark hickory. In spring, the Easter Garden is packed with colourful bulbs and trees, while thousands of daffodils line the Woodland Walk. An Old-Growth Forest is dominated by oak, sweet gum, and American beech. The Walled Garden features a Rose Garden maintained in honour of Letitia Glenn Biddle, co-founder of the Garden Club of America.
