About the garden
In the Yorkshire countryside between York and Harrogate, Beningbrough Hall and Art Gallery is surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens and parkland. Visitors can explore eight acres of formal gardens, including a two-acre walled kitchen garden, herbaceous borders and newly designed areas showcasing stunning blooms at different times of the year, providing a reason for guests to return throughout the seasons. The presence of historic trees and wildlife habitats enhances the venue’s year-round appeal.
Beningbrough is continually evolving. In collaboration with the National Trust, RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal winner Andy Sturgeon has developed a long-term vision for the gardens. This initiative began with the planting of 300,000 spring bulbs and the completion of the first new garden, the Pergola, where visitors can relax under oak beams in the shade of white wisteria. Recently, the Mediterranean Garden opened, showcasing a variety of pollinators and demonstrating how gardens can thrive in extreme weather.
Be sure to visit the walled garden to see an array of fruits and vegetables growing and take a stroll along the herbaceous borders that change beautifully with the seasons. In 2026, look forward to the newest addition to the Wilderness Garden, which will include new under-planting for added interest and additional seating to take in views of the surrounding parkland.
