About the garden

Cloudehill, set high in the cool Dandenong Ranges, is a masterclass in temperate horticulture. Its rich volcanic soil and sheltering eucalypts provide the perfect setting for a collection of trees and shrubs of international significance, many dating back to the historic Woolrich Nursery of 1895. Spanning 10 acres, the garden is divided into more than two dozen compartments, each with its own character and seasonal rhythm. Visitors can wander through sweeping herbaceous borders, bulb meadows, a green theatre for quiet reflection and woodland areas layered with texture and colour.

At its heart stand two magnificent weeping Japanese maples, sourced from Yokohama Nursery in 1928, a reminder of the garden’s deep horticultural heritage. Cloudehill blends artistry with botanical rigour, offering rare cultivars, imaginative plant combinations and a commitment to seasonal dynamism. For gardeners and plant enthusiasts, it is a destination of inspiration and beauty, an Australian gem with global roots.
