About the garden
This 25-acre University Botanic Garden is set among beautiful mature woodlands. Open to the public, visitors can wander through the alpine garden, winter garden, bamboo grove, glasshouses, woodland garden and wildflower meadow. Explore this unique garden and discover something new around each corner over the changing seasons.
The visitor centre is open daily for you to treat yourself to something in the coffee shop and gift shop. Picnic facilities are available, with several picnic benches located close to the visitor centre. Further benches and seating are provided throughout.
The main lawn, visitor centre and glasshouses are easily accessible by wheelchairs. The paths to the rest of the garden are generally good, but due to the nature of the garden are quite steep in parts and some are not suitable for wheelchairs or motorised scooters. Benches and tables are available all around the garden for visitors to rest.
Only assistance dogs are welcome into the garden due to the fragile plant-life and small animals that inhabit it – dog bowls can be obtained from the café. As well as being a beautiful natural environment in which to wander, explore and learn more about our plants, the Botanic Garden hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year. Many of these activities are free, with only standard admission charges applying.
Please note: This garden is partially accessible.
