About the garden
East Lambrook Manor Gardens is a Grade I listed cottage garden created by renowned plantswoman and author Margery Fish in the mid-20th century. Known for its informal charm, the garden features winding paths and themed garden rooms, including silver and white gardens and the famous ‘ditch’, home to an extensive snowdrop collection. Margery pioneered low-maintenance gardening after the Second World War and her passion for unusual plants and generosity with cuttings helped shape the garden’s unique character, with many varieties now bearing names linked to the garden.
Visitors enter across the main lawn into a series of intimate spaces framed by mature trees planted by Margery herself. Seasonal highlights abound, and the garden’s relaxed style invites exploration and inspiration. A tearoom offers a perfect pause, while the specialist nursery provides plants seen in the garden. Adding to the atmosphere is a 15th-century manor house, the private home of the current owners, occasionally open for viewing. Most visitors spend around two hours enjoying this historic and quintessentially English garden.
