Glamis Castle and Gardens
About the garden
Glamis Castle Gardens surround Scotland’s iconic fairytale castle, the childhood home of the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Spread across 150 acres, the grounds combine sweeping lawns, dramatic avenues, majestic trees and intimate spaces linked by a circular trail that takes about an hour to walk. Seasonal highlights include the mile-long avenue lined with daffodils in spring and the Italian Garden, created by King Charles III’s great-grandmother, which bursts with tulips, long perennial borders and vibrant summer bedding. Among the woodlands, visitors can follow the Macbeth Sculpture trail, a nod to the castle’s Shakespearean connection.
The four-acre walled Kitchen Garden is a centrepiece, restored over the past 15 years with double perennial borders, a decorative fruit and vegetable garden, and a 200-foot rose border with a central fountain. Newly developed pond gardens add interest, while seating areas, a grass maze, garden games and a summer horsebox café make it a welcoming space. Beyond, the eight-acre Pinetum showcases spectacular trees over 160 years old. After exploring, visitors can enjoy seasonal dishes in the Castle Restaurant or browse locally-sourced gifts in the shop, rounding off a memorable day at Glamis.
