About the garden

Staunton Country Park, also known as Leigh Park Gardens, is a Grade II listed Regency Landscape named after Sir George Staunton. Spanning 200 acres, the park showcases planting styles and species from the early 1800s, with formal gardens, follies, and features reflecting Sir George’s Chinese and botanical interests. Recent restoration efforts, supported by the National Heritage Lottery Fund, have revitalised the gardens with 50 new beds and 1,000 shrubs, alongside highlights like the ornamental lake and a walled garden offering seasonal plants and produce.

The park is also a Arbnet arboretum, making it part of an international network committed to tree conservation and education. It features an impressive collection of trees, including many Champion specimens. Staunton is  the holder of the National Collection for Lardizabalaceae, that includes Akebia and Stauntonia. Guided tours, outdoor theatres, and children’s holiday activities are available year-round, while visitors can enjoy light lunches, cream teas and homemade cakes in the Tea Rooms. The Old Coach House gift shop provides friendly service and all the information needed to make the most of your visit.
