About the garden
The Garden of St Erth is a historic property with roots in Australia’s gold rush era, now transformed into a celebrated horticultural destination. Surrounded by the Wombat State Forest, this cool-climate garden blends exotic cottage planting with the rugged beauty of the Australian landscape. When The Diggers Club acquired St Erth, it reimagined the site as a demonstration garden showcasing heirloom vegetables, heritage fruit trees and vibrant perennials, all grown using organic and sustainable methods.
Today, St Erth serves as both a living museum and an educational hub, offering workshops, tours and resources for gardeners of all levels. Seasonal displays highlight the adaptability and beauty of heirloom plants, while the kitchen garden and orchard supply fresh produce for the fork-to-fork café. As a flagship property for The Diggers Foundation, St Erth continues to inspire visitors to embrace biodiversity and sustainable gardening, making it a destination where history and horticultural innovation meet.
