Have a spooky half term

Halloween and half term collide at some of our Partner Gardens this October

Little witches under the Harry Potter tree at Blenheim Palace

Half-term spooktactular

There’s a  spooktacular October half term to be had at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire from 20th October – 4 November.

Expect spooky storytelling, and mini-beasts, fire performances and ghost trains.

And don’t miss the Spooky Tour of the Palace on Wednesday, 31 October at  5.30pm, an after-dark tour guaranteed to be full of chills and thrills!

In the Great Court meet a wicked wizard stilt-walker, watch fascinating fire performances, then head towards the Stables Courtyard to hear ghoulish tales and spooky storytelling.

Head outside to take the ghost train to the Pleasure Gardens and discover lurking monsters in the Marlborough Maze.

Get up close to mini-beasts such as tarantulas and snakes, then enjoy some frightfully fantastic fireworks display on Saturday, 3 November as part of its brand-new Halloween celebrations. Watch a witch take to the sky on a broomstick as she ‘flies’ across a trapeze, discover a levitating gargoyle human statue lurking amongst the crowd and be wowed by terribly tall Halloween Stilt Walkers.

The Great Golden Pumpkin Hunt

Great Golden Pumpkin HuntHead to Hestercombe in Somerset this October half term (27 October – 4 November) for a Halloween adventure with Willow the Witch, who stars in a family-friendly trail.

Visit Willow’s home in the Octagon Summerhouse to create your own magic wand which will help you on your quest.

Then set off on a hunt for six ingredients for the potion plus a couple of spells to keep trolls and naughty pixies away. Find the golden pumpkin and you’ll receive a reward.

Castle chills and thrills

Children in Halloween costume at Hever Castle Halloween at a castle is bound to be spooky, and Kent’s Hever Castle & Gardens is no exception.

The former home of Anne Boleyn is the place to listen to ghostly tales in the Ghost Catcher’s Lair, follow the pumpkin trail in the grounds and then get thrills and chills as you learn about the ghosts of Hever in the Castle.

You can get creative to, by making a ghost puppet or decorating a ghoulish biscuit.
And remember to dress to impress as there are prizes for the scariest costumes!

The Blair witch project

Finally, at Blair Castle in Scotland,  you are invited to a witches dinner in the State Dining Room. But the guests’ broomsticks have been lost around the castle and they need help to find them.

From 6 - 28 October (excl 27 October) explore the castle to locate the broomsticks and then head out into the grounds on a spooky treasure hunt. Finally, create some ghostly artwork in the Banvie Hall.
