A tuberous perennial climber, up to around 1m high, with slender, scrambling stems and palmate leaves divided into narrow, linear lobes. Golden yellow flowers, with widely spaced, wavy-edged petals sometimes streaked with red, are produced from late spring to early summer

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow under glass, or in containers that can be moved indoors over winter, in good light with shade from hot sun. Plant tubers at least 20cm below the surface in a very deep container, using peat-free, loam-based compost with added fine grit. Provide support for climbing stems. Plants return to dormancy soon after flowering

Propagation

Propagate by seed, sown as soon as ripe in autumn and kept cool but frost free (0-4°C), or by division, separating tubers when dormant in summer. Seed germination may be erratic and can take up to a year
