A spreading, deciduous shrub to 2m in height and spread, with dense twisted branches and dark green oval-shaped leaves. Clusters of cup-shaped flowers are pale pink to white on leafless, thorny branches in spring, then aromatic, green-yellow fruits are produced in autumn. These can be used to make jams and jellies but please see notes on toxicity for further advice
