A spreading, slender-branched deciduous shrub with aromatic, dark green leaves that turn pale lemon yellow in autumn. Small, greenish male and female flowers are carried on separate plants, the females singly, males in small sprays. Female plants may produce four-lobed brown fruit, 2cm across, in autumn
