A large-sized, evergreen, epiphytic orchid with ilnear, 90cm long and 2-3cm wide, leathery leaves. Egg-shaped pseudobulbs are covered with wider, papery, leaf-bearing sheaths. Upright flowering stems emerge from the base of new, mature pseudobulbs in late winter and spring and reach up to 90cm tall. Each stem bears up to ten flowers. The flowers are bright red. Colour may vary according to cultivar. Each large, waxy flower measures up to 11cm across and is non-fragrant but very long-lasting
