A slow-growing, deciduous small multi-stemmed tree or large shrub with an irregular, round shape, the branches drooping slightly as they mature. Pointed, oval-shaped foliage emerges red, turning dark green in summer then to shades of scarlet red to violet purple in the autumn. Pale pink to white flowers are surrounded by four bracts each, appearing in spring to summer, followed by strawberry-like red berries in the autumn
