A rounded, bushy, evergreen shrub to around 1.2m in height, with glossy, oval, dark green foliage which turns dark maroon to burgundy red in the autumn. Pink buds open to very fragrant pinkish-white flowers in the spring, followed by drooping clusters of bright red berries, turning to black in the autumn. A more compact, American variety which pairs well with pale-coloured, early spring bulbs
