A shrub semi-dwarf tree to about 4m tall with slightly upright branching. Leaves opposite, start out light-yellow green and deepen slightly in summer becoming spectacularly pink and red in autumn hence the name. Small floral bracts fade from pale green to white, more prolific when the previous summer was long and hot. Fruits are a typical small strawberry-like globe.
