A rosette-forming succulent, with fleshy, spiny, mid-green leaves which develop red tones if stressed. Mature plants can produce clusters of tubular, red flowers on upright stems in winter. Capable of developing stems several metres long, with 45cm-long leaves, in tropical conditions, but unlikely to exceed 50cm tall when grown as a houseplant
