A compact, rounded, deciduous shrub about 1m tall and wide with spiny branches, glossy oval mid-green leaves, and semi-double, cup-shaped, salmon tinted, red flowers on bare stems in spring, followed by aromatic green fruit ripening to yellow in autumn. These can be used to make jams and jellies but please see notes on toxicity for further advice
