A dwarf, slow-growing, evergreen conifer, which unlike the typical species, produces a compact, flattened spherical bush, eventually reaching up to 1.5m (5ft) high and 2m (6½ft) across after around ten years. The dark-green needles are soft, and up to 12cm (5in) long and slightly twisted, giving the bush a ruffled texture. They are very densely produced, so that the stems and basal branches are concealed by them. It is an ideal choice for a small city, or courtyard garden, where an architectural, or evergreen focal point is needed
