A vigorous, trailing or gently spreading floriferous tender perennial usually grown as seasonal bedding, or seasonal ground cover. It has oval shaped, sticky and hairy mid-green leaves and produces gramophone-trumpet-shaped, deepest dark purple flowers around 6 or 7 cm across. Blooms from late spring well into autumn if well fed and watered. Its rambling habit means it can trail and spread well, so good for big hanging baskets, in balcony containers and as colourful ground cover in warm, sunny, well-drained places.
