Palmate, 3 to 5-lobed, dark green leaves, grey-green and covered in dense, woolly, soft down beneath, turn rich red and scarlet in autumn. Dense, upright clusters of tiny red flowers produced in spring before the leaves, are followed by dark red winged fruits on slender drooping stalks in autumn
