A spreading, deciduous thorny shrub about 2m in height, with dark green, glossy leaves. Clusters of single, bright red, cup-shaped flowers are produced in spring on bare branches, followed, in autumn, by small aromatic green-yellow fruits. These can be used to make jams and jellies but please see notes on toxicity for further advice
