An herbaceous perennial, forming a clump to around 80cm high, with upright stems bearing leaves divided into three clover-like leaflets. Tall clusters of bright yellow flowers are produced in late spring or early summer, fading to shades of orange and sometimes purple as they mature, and followed in autumn by dark grey seed pods
