A medium to large-sized, evergreen, tropical epiphytic orchid hybrid, valued for its large, bright-coloured, long-lasting flowers. As a typical example of monopodial orchid, the new growth emerges from the central tip on a long, stem-like rhizome. The stem is tightly covered with leaf-bearing, green, alternate bracts. Strap-shaped, green or dark green leaves angle out from the stem. A characteristic feature is an impressive roots system, hanging downwards from the base of the plant. New roots emerge from the main stem, following the ascending growing trend. Inflorescences emerge from axils of leaf sheaths, and carry 8 or more large, waxy, round-shaped flowers. All petals and sepal are round, uniform in shape and size. Flowers are heavily spotted with darker pattern, and mosaic tesselation on the lower sepals. Colour may vary from pink to purple, depending on the cultivar. This hybrid, bred in Florida in 1982 has given progeny to many bright-coloured modern hybrids, valued for the longevity and size of their flowers.
