A medium-sized, evergreen, tropical, epiphytic orchid hybrid, with large, bright-coloured flowers. As a monopodial orchid, a new growth emerges from a central tip on a long, upright, stem-like rhizome. As new leaves emerge at the top, the older - lower leaves gradually fall off. Green or dark green, alternate, strap-shaped leaves are attached to green sheaths, covering the main stem. Leaves are up to 40cm long and angle out from the central stem. A characteristic feature of the plant is an impressive root system that hangs downwards at the base of the plant. New roots emerge from the central stem, following the ascending growing trend. Flowering stems develop from the axils of leaves and carry up to 8 large, round-shaped flowers. Petals and sepals are rounded, uniform in size, with darker tesselation on the two lower sepals. Each flower measures 8-10cm across. Colour of the flowers varies, depending on the cultivar.
