An upright, deciduous shrub to small tree up to 2.5m tall, with oval to elliptical leaves, dark green above and whitish beneath and red margins and petioles. The flat lacecap flowers are produced in mid-spring and early autumn and consist of a few creamy-white sterile florets, surrounding numerous non-showy, greenish-white fertile flowers
