A clump-forming perennial, with rounded, lobed leaves, to 10cm across, which form a mound 40cm high and which open metallic rose-pink in spring and gradually darken to purple-pink, and panicles to 70cm high of creamy white flowers, flushed with pale pink, in early summer

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, in partial or full shade, and mulch every year; the rootstock tends to push upwards, so every few years, in late summer or early autumn, divide and re-plant with only the crown above ground
Propagate by division in late summer or early autumn; propagation for resale is prohibited without a licence
No pruning required, but old leaves and flower stems may be removed to improve appearance
May be susceptible to leaf and bud eelworms and vine weevil
