A short-lived, clump-forming perennial to around 1.2m in height, forming a rosette of elliptic, toothed, hairy green leaves that are flushed reddish-purple when young. Upright stems bear a succession of up to six nodding, sky blue flowers to 10cm across, in late spring and early summer
