A bulbous perennial, to 20cm tall, with erect, grey-green leaves and variable, solitary, nodding, white flowers, in late winter. Bulbs may produce flowers with extra segments, or twin flowers on the same stem, sometimes fused together. The inner segments are marked with a green, inverted V shape at the tips
