A compact, upright, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with red shoots which open to dark glossy green, turning to orange-red, dark red and yellow in the autumn. Lavender-purple flowers with crinkled petals are produced in large, terminal clusters in summer. Brown and grey peeling bark offers more interest throughout the year. Although semi-hardy, it may need protection in the winter in colder conditions
