A species, rare in cultivation, with compact, tight rosettes of large, powdery, fleshy blue-grey green leaves blushed with pink to pale purple, depending on light levels. The leaves grow upwards and develop quite fierce-looking spikes on the tips as they mature. Bell-shaped pink and yellow flowers appear in the spring
