A hardy herbaceous perennial with tall, upright stems bearing large, bell-shaped violet-blue flowers in late spring to midsummer. Growing to about 40–90 cm, it forms a neat basal clump of green leaves. It prefers sun or light shade and moist, well-drained soil. Ideal for mixed borders and cottage gardens, it attracts bees and makes a good cut flower
