An evergreen shrub to 1.3m high, with an upright habit and oval to rounded, glossy green leaves edged with yellow-orange in spring and summer, and flushed dark purple-brown with red margins in autumn and winter. This is a female cultivar, though flowers are insignificant and berries are rarely produced

How to Grow

Cultivation

In milder areas, grow outdoors in neutral to slightly acid soil, in sun or light shade, and protect from winter frosts. Grow under glass in peat-free, loam-based potting compost with added grit, in bright filtered light and with good ventilation.

Propagation

Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings in late summer. As this plant is protected by Plant Breeders' Rights, any propagation should be for personal rather than commercial use
